Internationally renowned rock climbing destination
With towering orange sandstone cliffs throughout the Grampians National Park, this area is internationally renowned for its rock climbing and abseiling experiences.
An endless variety of climbing grades exist for climbers of all experience, from easy bouldering, intermediate pitches to advanced multi-pitches and overhangs for the adventurous.
In the central Grampians Grampians near Halls Gap, The Watchtower, Bundaleer and Mt Rosea offer a diverse range of climbs.
The northern Grampians hosts an assortment of climbs in the Summerday Valley near the Hollow Mountain carpark. And for the experienced climbers the rugged cliff faces of Mount Stapylton are a great thrill.
South of Halls Gap is the Seven Dials and Barbican Rocks on the Mt William Range, there is a diverse range of climbs in this area.
West of Halls Gap lies the more remote, and less visited Victoria Range. The rugged location is home to multiple climbs near the Buandik Picnic Area and at the Fortress.
Nearby Mt Arapiles is the most popular climbing and abseiling destination in Australia, with more than 2,000 designated climbs, ranging from easy ascents for beginners to the most extreme climbs.
Local outdoor adventure companies offer a variety of climbing and abseiling courses from introductory lessons to advanced programs.
For the more experienced climber, there are several climbing guidebooks that detail the advanced climbs; these are generally available at outdoor equipment shops, local newsagents and visitor information centres.
